|About The Swiss Cottage|
The Swiss Cottage is a traditional, solid stone, mid terrace house with accommodation arranged over three floors. It is estimated that the property was built around 1830 - It is very old!
Many of the houses along the street and in the town itself are Grade II listed.
The Swiss Cottage is part of a conservation area, valued as a place of local interest to be maintained for years to come.
There is a double storey, flat roof section to the house at the rear, built in the 1950s and accommodating the Kitchen, an additional bedroom and a reading room. The front faces a westerly direction, offering the back garden both morning and evening sun opportunities each day. Why not enjoy an evening Pimms in the summer house at the back and escape into your private haven!
The Swiss Cottage is located just a minute or two (depending on your walking style!) from the centre of Pickering, a North Yorkshire market town, where you can discover bars, restaurants and shops. Pickering has a castle, which dates from the 13th century and has, over time, been a royal hunting lodge, holiday home and a stud farm by a succession of medieval kings. There is more history to be uncovered with a visit to the Beck Isle Museum.
Pickering is also the home of the world famous North Yorkshire Moors Railway, which operates the route from Pickering to Whitby with several stops along the way.
This is an immensley popular tourist attraction as well as major film location too, having been most recently used twice since 2020, including for the latest "Mission Impossible" film starring Tom Cruise!
One of the stops along the way is Goathland, a village well known to fans of the long-running TV series, "Heartbeat", where the village was transformed into the fictional setting of "Aidensfield" and remains a popular destination to this day. Goathland station also featured as "Hogsmeade" in the first Harry Potter film too!
The Swiss Cottage is deceptively spacious, with an open-plan dining room and living room with open wood burner. The extensive galley kitchen is fully equipped with a large fridge freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, electric oven, electric grill and gas hob. There is also a storage cupboard with vacuum cleaner and basic cleaning products.
The first floor has two bedrooms (the master bedroom with king-size double bed & the second with twin single beds), a reading room/study and a bathroom with walk-in shower as well as a claw-foot bath. The second floor accommodates bedroom 3, which is a spacious attic room, with a standard double bed located under the eaves.
