About Tillers Cottage | ||||
![]() Tillers Cottage is a fabulous semi-detached, coursed stonework cottage, in the picturesque village of Ebberston, located between Scarborough and Pickering in the Ryedale District of North Yorkshire. This self catering holiday cottage is warm, welcoming and comfortable throughout. Tillers Cottage will appeal to families and friends, accommodating up to eight people (plus one infant) and one well behaved dog. Dating back to the 18th Century, Tillers cottage has been beautifully restored to provide guests with exceptionally comfortable and stylish accommodation, combining character features with modern amenities. The kitchen is modern and spacious: there's ample space to seat eight around the central dining table, with a snug seating area, including warming woodburning stove to one side. The kitchen is well equipped with an electric hob, two ovens, fridge / freezer, microwave and dishwasher. There is also a washing machine. This whole area is an excellent space for guests to socialise together and includes a smart TV with Freeview, DVD player and a selection of puzzles and games. Down a couple of steps there is a separate spacious sitting room with sumptuous comfy seating, beamed ceiling and log burner - a superb space to relax and unwind. There is a wall mounted smart TV. There is a handy downstairs cloakroom.
Tillers Cottage has four charming bedrooms, all individually styled. The bedrooms are perfectly arranged for two families: the en suite king and one twin room at the top of the stairs before going up a couple of steps and though a doorway to the other king size, twin and family bathroom. The master bedroom has a king size bed and en-suite shower, basin and toilet. A second bedroom has a king size bed. There are also 2 twin bedrooms. There is also a spacious family bathroom with bath, separate shower, basin and toilet. On the outside, Tillers Cottage has a separate enclosed garden area located across the driveway; a pretty, tranquil and sheltered little haven. The garden is gently sloping with a couple of steps at both the top and lower ends. It boasts a patio area with seating for eight: the perfect sun trap to enjoy a morning coffee or evening drinks.
Ebberston itself offers an excellent local inn, children's play park and tennis court. It has regular public transport buses connecting it with Scarborough to the East and Helmsley to the West. Within walking distance of Tillers Cottage is Chafer Wood, a popular walking destination, where King Alfred's Cairn / Cave can be found. The cairn dates back to 1770, built on top of a cave where King Alfred rested following injury in a battle around 708 AD. Chafer Wood is a nature reserve, with a wide range of plants, animals and birds - something of interest for all ages. From Chafer Wood there are other footpaths to explore, linking Ebberston with neighbouring villages. In the neighbouring village of Snainton, is a superb golf driving range and 9 hole golf course. There is also an excellent public house serving food, approximately 20 - 30 minutes walk, or less than 2 miles by car or bus. To the west is Allerston, again a couple of miles by car or bus, or approximately 45 minutes walk across the fields - here you'll find another great local inn serving food. Local shopping facilities are available in nearby Thornton-le-Dale.
